TEAM SCARLET - 1st Place // KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023.

TEAM SCARLET - 1st Place // KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023.

Although some may deny it, last week during the selections, when the enemy teams gazed around, attempting to discern who the greatest opponent might be, the writing was on the wall, and its color was red. Right out of the gate… Wow. Not much more to say. When you are a kid, lined up as a team, looking at your opponent, sometimes it becomes brutally apparent who stands as the greatest or perhaps the most capable competitor. During the Team Battle, when the teams were picked, Team SCARLET, captained by Ramiro Gallart, was undeniably stacked with skill and projected to deliver on all accounts. Standing beside Ramiro were Jack Reider, Alex Meindi, Chase Hasch, Einar Saad, and Nadja Bianchet. While every team has its highs and lows, Team Scarlet appeared to predominantly soar in steady strides, working in flawless unison. One of the most intriguing techniques of Team SCARLET was coincidentally how little they appeared to ride in comparison to the rest of the field. Instead of spending hours on end scrounging for puffs of steady wind, Team SCARLET was tactful with their time, choosing to ride deliberately for short stints, saving their energy and trick selection for when it mattered most. As a result, Team Scarlet was ferociously efficient both on and off the water, allowing them to stockpile incredible footage during their strikes to the park while also dedicating time in the studio to meticulously edit their Team Battle submission. Together, the collective group of Team SCARLET was not only a threat on the water, but equally as superior on land. One of the most crucial aspects of the Team Battle is choosing a team that can harmonize, and Ramiro proved to have successfully created this valued formula. From all of us at the Kite Park League, we would like to congratulate and crown Team SCARLET as our 2023 Team Battle Champion! Along with winning the Team Battle, during the awards, Alex Meindi was recognized for his drone pilot mastery, and captain Ramiro Gallart was voted to have completed the Best Line. Thank you for joining us for the 2023 Team Battle presented by Knot Future. Please rise for a standing ovation as we all congratulate Team SCARLET. Although you can choose to stay standing, we implore you to crack, pop, sip, or chug your finest beverage, while being captivated by the visual efforts of Team SCARLET, the winner of the Team Battle. TEAM ICE (MELTDOWN) - 2nd Place // KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023.

The last glacial period occurred well over 100,000 years ago, and since then, the earth has been slowly melting, causing rivers to flow, oceans to fill, and ice to become a precious commodity. On a hot summer day in Hood River, Oregon, there is nothing better than plunging into the cool glacial runoff that empties into the Slider Project’s immaculate park. While a glacial plunge is certainly nice, there are few things colder and more defiant than ice itself. For the 2023 Team Battle, Team ICE posed as perhaps an underdog and an unforeseen threat to the podium. However, one of the greatest aspects of the Team Battle is the unknown and the potential for disruption. Up until the videos are premiered, competitors are unaware of the cards the other team might be holding. Team ICE, captained by Xander Raith, along with Katie Potter, Tim Walsh, Ian Daly, and Asher Clarke delivered a frosty, stone-cold heater at the end of the week, earning them second place in the Team Battle, as well as a handful of subsequent accolades. Perhaps one of the more notable differences for Team ICE was the team’s composition. Besides being the youngest Team, During team selection, Xander was the only captain to choose a female rider as his first pick, which proved advantageous as Katie rode incredibly well all week and was voted Best Female by her peers. While Katie dominated the park all week long, her talent was matched by the efforts and performance of Tim, Ian, and Asher, who all helped Team ICE earn Best Edit. Along with Best Edit and Best Female, Team ICE’s captain, Xander, was able to clench Best Kicker hit. For the 2023 Team Battle, Team ICE’s crew verified their unique distinction and share with the world a video that encapsulates their efforts. Please sit back and enjoy the visual efforts of the runner-up, Team ICE. KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023 - HOOD RIVER, OR. TEAM FOREST - 3rd Place // KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023.

Along with inclusivity and collaboration, the Team Battle acts as a platform to exercise creative expression, and beyond the short list of requirements, and ingenuity, individuality can flourish as fundamental pillars that offer near-limitless potential. As a result of this creative expanse, the tone, feeling, riding, and styling of each video is incredibly unique and Team Forest led the forefront of this effort as their video is terrifically original. Captained by Ewan Jaspan, Team FOREST was fully stacked with a list of prestigious riders who are all overwhelmingly talented. The expertise of Eric Rienstra, Chris Bobryk, and Colleen Carroll helped Team FOREST secure a third-place finish in the 2023 Team battle. Joining this list of distinguished riders was Leo Verrechia, a new-comer to the Team Battle and voted by his peers as the best Rookie. Together, these five kept the pressure on throughout the entirety of the Battle, making the most of the week’s variable conditions and forging ahead to curate a masterpiece worthy of the podium. For the 2023 Team Battle, the Kite Park League would like to congratulate Team FOREST for their third-place finish and incredible display of riding, creativity, and video composition. TEAM NAVY - 4th Place // KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023.

In 1748, officers in the Royal Navy were adorned in dark blue, and ever since, the color has subsequently been adopted by other navies around the world, often being affiliated as a color of noble status and true prestige. Throughout the entire week of the Team Battle, Team NAVY lived up to the reputation of its predecessors, gracing the competition with work of superb finesse. Team NAVY included the talent of Brendan Kerr, Andy Cain, Zach Adams, Ryan Goloversic, Lauren Holman, and team captain Noe Font. Together, these six riders took advantage of every opportunity to ride, liking logging more hours on water than any other team. If you are unfamiliar with the cinematic efforts of Noe and his dedication both in front and behind the camera, let this act as your introduction. Team NAVY’S video is a work of art and deliberate expression. Additionally, along with an incredible video, Noe’s technicality earned him the Best Slider hit, and he was voted by his peers as Best Male rider. However, as the name implies, the Team Battle is a joint effort and group collaboration. Of this group, Andy Cain was a welcomed addition and a rookie to the Team Battle. Although his riding, precision, and resilience might indicate otherwise. We all look forward to watching his dominance continue to unfold in the years to come. Additionally, Team NAVY was supported by Brendan Kerr, an assassin on both the kickers and the sliders, being the first to get a session started and the last one to shut it down. Team NAVY was also strengthened by Lauren Holman, Zach Adams, and Ryan Goloversic, who all helped lead the team on and off the water, all together helping to curate a video that will stand the test of time. Please sit back and enjoy the visual efforts of Team NAVY. KPL TEAM BATTLE 2023 - HOOD RIVER, OR. The inaugural Kite Park League Sicily - KPL Championship Tour 2023.

The awards ceremony and closing party hosted by the DPC (Duotone Pro Center) kicked off by recognizing the female victors who were able to finish their finals the day prior. For KPL Scilily 2023, we are happy to celebrate Lauren Holman on her third-place finish, followed by Karolina Winkowska as second, and the champion of the women’s final, Katie Potter. These three women, along with many more, are role models in our sport, and each one of them deserves equal respect and admiration. Park-riding is not easy, yet the style and grace showcased by these three powerhouses make it appear otherwise. For the men, our victors are as follows; Ramiro Gallart, Eric Rienstra, Ewan Jaspan, Maxime Chabloz, Xander Raith, and Noe Font. Although all of the rankings are celebrated, for KPL Sicily, the final, along with the podium, was greeted with new faces. KPL first-timer Maxime Chabloz dominated throughout the week, more than proving the Swiss Army Knife’s capabilities in any setting. Maxime’s competitive prowess within park-riding was overtly apparent, and we are excited to watch him refine his techniques as his podium reign is likely just beginning. Along with Maxime, Xander Raith also made the final debut. After making his way through both the qualifier and the semifinal, Xander continued his momentum into the finals and was able to punctuate the valued etiquette of park by pressing and grabbing his way into second. Although Maxime and Xander were both welcomed faces to the KPL podium, their efforts could not dieter the Spanish veteran. Once again, atop the podium for the second consecutive time was none other than Noe Font, arguably one of the most consistent and smooth park riders of our time. Noe is a master of the craft, and during the second stop of the 2023 KPL season tour, Noe was able to defend his title and illustrate the beauty of park-riding. While the contest may be in the rearview, the KPL is thrilled to announce the standing establishment of the Duotone Pro Center Sicily seasonal park. In an effort to make park-riding more accessible, all features used during the event can be available for use with permission and authorization of the DPC. With the support of the DPC, the KPL hopes that those interested in park-riding can take this opportunity to experience world-class kiteboarding features, continuing the growth and prosperity of park-riding. As with any event we proudly host, the effort and time invested are driven by passion and inclusivity. The KPL staff, contractors, legal team, media personnel, and chief editor would like to share our sincerest gratitude for the sponsors that helped bring KPL Sicily to life. Without the help of Duotone, ION, Duotone Pro Center Sicily, We Ride Local, Xenon Boards, Oasi Guzzetta, and Knotfuture, the event would have been nothing more than a pipe dream. Additionally, the staff at KPL would like to thank the entire staff at the Duotone Pro Center Sicily for accommodating and being the most gracious hosts to our event. The KPL would also like to thank the interim staff, which included head judge Christophe Tack, secondary judge Alec Mur, photographer Samu Cardenas, videographer Laci Kobulsky, and social media director Nina Font. Despite the unfortunate legal dispute that barred the televised livestream, Samu, Laci, and Nina, along with the rest of our media staff, captured the event with razor-sharp precision and timelines, delivering our audience premium coverage. And well… that’s it, that’s all folks. The inaugural 2023 Kite Park League Sicily has officially concluded. The results have been chronicled, the photos have been captured, the videographers have filled their hard-drives, the riders have dispersed, and the contest now wonders freely as a memory. See you all again soon in August for the Team Battle (event details can be found on our website.) Stay humble, stay authentic, keep the support coming, and don’t forget, if park-riding was easy, everyone wouldn’t be doing big air… All the love, KPL
